2.4 A Beautiful Mess: Inspired by Cy Twombly and Christian Dotremont

Two artists who had absolutely no interest in keeping their handwriting neat: Cy Twombly and Christian Dotremont.

Twombly made paintings that looked like a toddler scribbled on a wall: fast, loose, almost impatient. Dotremont wrote poems where the text itself became the image.

Both of them understood something important: the gesture of writing carries meaning, even before you read a single word.

In this video, we’ll use their work as a source of inspiration for your own pages. You don’t need to know anything about art history. You just need a pen and a willingness to make something that doesn’t have to be legible.
