A Body Manifesto

A Body Manifesto is a bold activist art project by Marieke Blokland (Studio Bloknote), created in collaboration with Breda-based activist performance artist Samuel Mallee.
The project asks one urgent question: Are we truly free to be ourselves?
Free to decide how our bodies look, how we dress, move and exist in public space — without fear, judgment or control?
For this collaboration, Mallee offered complete artistic freedom: a carte blanche to paint his body and select every symbol and accessory. Together, they created a visual manifesto.
At its core, A Body Manifesto stands for bodily self-determination, freedom of expression and solidarity. It connects feminist pro-choice values with queer and trans rights, making visible the systems that continue to police bodies.
